How to know the perfect foundation for your skin
Ladies know that shopping for a foundation can be a challenge especially with the different shades and types available but don’t be discouraged it is much easier than you think.
Here are the four super easy tips you need to know to help you choose the right foundation for your skin type and colour.
FULL COVERAGE OR MEDIUM COVERAGE
There are different types of foundation; from light coverage, to medium coverage, full coverage and High definition. If you know you have a lot of skin problems like acne, eczema then you should go for a full coverage foundation. However, if you have smooth skin then you can go for light coverage.
KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE
There are four skin types; normal, dry, oily and combination skin types. To determine your skin type, wash your face and feel your skin. If your skin feels okay, you have normal skin type; go for liquid foundation If your skin feels taut and dry, you have dry skin type; go for liquid and crème foundations.
If your skin feels moist or oily, you have oily skin type If your skin feels oily only across the T-zone (forehead and nose), you have combination skin type. Powder and Mineral formulas work best for Oily/Combination skin types. No matter your skin type, you may also be able to wear other formulas designed for your skin type.
TRY OUT SAMPLES BEFORE BUYING
The best way to find your foundation shade is to pick 3 or 4 shades that look like a match and try them out. Swipe the shades on your cheek and along your jaw line.
Don’t sample the shades on the back of your hand; the skin in this area is slightly darker than the skin on your face. Step outside into natural light or move close to a window for a better look, as most in-store artificial light isn’t ideal for reading colours.
ALLOW IT TO SETTLE
If you think you have found the right shade, wait for five to ten minutes to allow the foundation warm up and settle into your skin. If the foundation colour has blended into your complexion and isn’t detectable, then you’ve gotten the right foundation.
