Ex-president Jonathan Says Covid-19 May Breed Dictators In Africa
Former Nigerian president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has cautioned against the possibility of coronavirus pandemic breeding dictators in Africa, as its infliction grows higher suming up to millions.
The former president made this important warning on Friday, May 22, during a webinar organised by the Kofi Annan Foundation, which he participated in.
He pleaded with leaders in Africa to be careful of the way they handle the issue which has placed the world in an unrest state.
He further added that all continental bodies must come up with their own minimum standards.
Jonathan believes this is the time for many continental bodies to come up with their own minimum standards for any country going into election to operate with.
Speaking further, the former president stated that if this measures are not considered and put in place, people who ordinarily would have loved to be dictators will now exploit the problem of the COVID-19 pandemic to do what is not in line with laws guiding the land.
Moreso, he praised President Muhammadu Buhari and all Nigerian governors for taking unified responses in the fight against the pandemic.
