Dangote Leads As Forbes Releases List Of 2021 Top 10 Africa’s Richest People

Nigerian Business mogul, Aliko Dangote, for the 10th straight year, has remained on top of Forbes list of richest persons in Africa, with a net worth of $12.5b.

The list, which was published on Friday, has the names Mike Adenuga of Globacom, and Abdulsamad Rabiu of BUA Group, both Nigerians, as they made it to the list as the 5th and 6th richest persons in Africa respectively.

Dangote, who is the founder and Chairman of Dangote Cement, the continent’s largest cement producer kept the position he has occupied for nine years now.

He owns 85% of publicly-traded Dangote Cement which produces 45.6 million metric tons annually and has operations in 10 countries across Africa.

The billionaire businessman also owns stakes in publicly-traded salt and sugar manufacturing companies.

While Cement and sugar business man, Abdulsamad Rabiu who sits on 6th position, owes his remarkable rise in fortune to his BUA Cement PLC shares which doubled in value in the past year to put his net worth at $5.5 billion, Globacom telecoom boss Mike Adenuga, on number 5, net worth sits at $6.3 billion from $5.7 billion in 2020.

Meanwhile, drop in oil prices led to a consequent drop in the wealth of Nigeria’s Folorunsho Alakija, who owns an oil exploration company, hereby, taking her out of the top ten as she goes below the $1 billion mark.

Others in the top 10 list are Nassef Sawiris of Egypt who sits on number 2 with $8.5 billion, Nicky Oppenheimer of South Africa, number 3 with $8 billion, Johann Rupert who gets the 4th position with $7.2 billion, Issad Ribrab, sitting on number 7 with $4.8 billion, Naguib Sawiris, number 8 with $3.2 billion, Patrice Motsepe, number 9 with $3 billion and Koos Bekker on 10th position with $2.8 billion.
